(2) Another cause could be a weak or broken positioning spring. If the spring force is insufficient or the spring has broken, the engagement sleeve may slide axially under load or vibration, causing the gear to disengage.
(3) Excessive axial wear on the ball groove of the engagement sleeve can also lead to disengagement. As the unit operates, the steel ball inside the groove moves axially, which can cause the meshing teeth to separate.
(4) Worn shifting grooves or ball heads on the control stick can result in excessive axial clearance during gear shifting. Even if the gear is engaged, the meshing width might be too small, making it easy for the gear to disengage under load or when the unit vibrates.
2. Troubleshooting and Repair Methods
When issues like these occur, it's important to address them promptly to avoid further damage and ensure safe operation.
(1) If the meshing teeth are worn down, they should be repaired or replaced. A common repair method involves using a carbon welding electrode to rebuild the teeth, followed by standard tooth profiling and heat treatment as specified.
(2) If the positioning spring is weak or damaged, it should be replaced with a new one that meets the manufacturer’s specifications. This ensures the engagement sleeve remains stable and secure during operation.
(3) In cases where the ball grooves on the engagement sleeve are excessively worn, they should be either repaired or replaced. This helps maintain proper alignment and prevents unwanted disengagement.
(4) For worn shifting grooves or ball heads, welding and machining can be used to restore their shape. After repairs, heat treatment may be necessary to strengthen the parts. If the damage is too severe, replacement with new components is recommended.
