Techniques for Anti-cracking Fruits in Citrus in Summer

In the late July to early August, it's recommended to adjust the nutrient balance of fruit trees by reducing phosphate fertilizer application and increasing potassium fertilizer. During this period, dig two holes on either side of the tree canopy, about 30–40 cm deep. Each hole should be filled with approximately 30 kg of farmyard manure, 0.2 kg of urea, 0.2 kg of potassium chloride, and 3–5 kg of wood ash, which can also serve as an alternative source of potash. This practice helps improve soil fertility and supports healthy fruit development. During the dry season, especially in July and August, ensure proper irrigation. Water the canopy thoroughly using a sprayer to keep the foliage moist. Additionally, cover the ground with crop straw or weeds to retain moisture and suppress weed growth. In winter, collect the removed vegetation and bury it in the garden to enrich the soil as organic fertilizer, helping the trees better withstand drought conditions. In the early stages of drought, perform shallow tilling (8–12 cm) within the tree's root zone and deeper plowing (15–25 cm) between rows. After any rainfall, drain excess water immediately to prevent waterlogging. To manage summer and autumn shoots, prune excessive short shoots to an appropriate length. Remove overly vigorous shoots promptly, cutting them back to about 2 cm to maintain tree structure and promote better fruiting. This practice ensures balanced growth and improves overall tree health.
