Abstract: Spraying King of Plant Fertilizer, a foliar fertilizer, in greenhouses significantly increases eggplant yield, improves the input-output ratio, enhances product quality, and delivers substantial economic benefits. It is recommended for use in greenhouses and other vegetable crops.
Keywords: King of Plant Fertilizer; Eggplant; Foliar Spraying; The fertilizer was developed and produced by the Institute of Earth Biology in Hengyang City, Hunan Province. It is an organic, pollution-free, broad-spectrum, high-efficiency, multi-functional liquid fertilizer. Its main ingredient is alkaloids (0.6% from bitter buckwheat seeds), which effectively boosts photosynthesis, balances soil nutrient release, and has been widely used in Hunan agriculture with notable yield improvements. To evaluate its impact on eggplants, field trials were conducted over two consecutive seasons (1999–2000). The results are presented below.
1. Materials and Methods
1.1 Test Materials The test fertilizer, King of Plant Fertilizer, was supplied by the Hengyang Institute of Biology. It was diluted to 100x and 150x concentrations. The experiment took place in a spring greenhouse at the municipal vegetable base in Ningbo New District. The soil type was purple soil with high fertility. The eggplant variety used was Kangle No. 1, with a planting density of 1800 plants per mu. The first planting occurred on November 1, 1998, followed by transplanting on December 10, 1998, and then on January 20, 1999. Harvesting started on April 18, 1999, and ended on June 15, 1999. A second round of planting began on October 13, 1999, with transplanting on November 23, 1999, and planting on January 28, 2000. The second harvest ran from April 20 to June 23, 2000.
1.2 Experimental Design Each plot received 4000 kg of organic fertilizer (duck manure) and 30 kg of compound fertilizer (Xiamen) as base fertilizer. Top dressing was applied four times, each time using 3 kg of urea per mu. Three treatments were set up: (1) 100x dilution of King of Plant Fertilizer; (2) 150x dilution; (3) control with clear water. The design was randomized with four replications. In 1999, each plot was 15 m², and in 2000, it was 30 m². All treatments were sprayed once with a backpack sprayer after the first flower setting (March 16) and again after fruit set, ensuring even coverage on both sides of the leaves.
2. Results and Analysis
2.1 Effect on Eggplant Yield After two years of testing, the application of King of Plant Fertilizer showed a significant increase in yield. In 1999, the 100x treatment achieved 2340 kg per mu, 1760 kg higher than the control, representing a 32.95% increase. The 150x treatment yielded 2260 kg per mu, which was 500 kg more than the control, or a 28.41% increase. In 2000, the 100x treatment reached 2560 kg per mu, surpassing the control by 582 kg (29.42%), while the 150x treatment yielded 2485 kg per mu, an increase of 507 kg (25.63%). The results showed that both 100x and 150x treatments were significantly better than the control, but there was no significant difference between the two concentrations.
Table 1: Effects of King of Plant Fertilizer on Eggplant Yield and Output Value
Annual Eggplant Yield (kg/667m²) | Increased Yield (%) Compared to Control | Output Value (yuan/667m²) | Input-Output Ratio
Spraying King of Plant Fertilizer 100x | 2340 | 32.95 a | 6318 | 1:78.3
1999 | Spraying King of Plant Fertilizer 150x | 2260 | 28.41 a | 6102 | 1:67.5
| Clear Water (CK) | 1760 | b | 4752 | -
| Spraying King of Plant Fertilizer 100x | 2560 | 29.42 a | 7577.6 | 1:86.1
2000 | Spraying King of Plant Fertilizer 150x | 2486 | 25.63 a | 7358.6 | 1:75.2
| Clear Water (CK) | 1978 | b | 5854.9 | -
Note: Average price in 1999 was 2.7 yuan/kg; in 2000, it was 2.96 yuan/kg.
2.2 Impact on Output Value According to Table 1, spraying King of Plant Fertilizer increased output value by 1566 yuan to 1350 yuan in 1999 compared to the control. In 2000, the increase was 1722.7 yuan to 1503.7 yuan. The economic return was highly favorable. The input-output ratios were 1:48.9 and 1:42.2 in 1999 for 100x and 150x, respectively. In 2000, they were 1:53.8 and 1:47.2.
2.3 Effect on Traits and Quality of Eggplant The test results indicated that eggplants treated with King of Plant Fertilizer had higher fertilization rates, a glossier appearance, and better marketability. On May 12, 2000, the average length of individual fruits was 40.8 cm for the 100x treatment and 40.6 cm for the 150x treatment, compared to 35.7 cm in the control—increasing by 5.1 cm and 4.9 cm, respectively. The single fruit weight also increased by 11.6–15.8 grams. Quality analysis showed that vitamin C content increased by 1.6 mg per 100g in treated eggplants, and the fruits stayed fresh longer.
3. Summary
3.1 After two consecutive years of testing, it was found that applying King of Plant Fertilizer improved plant growth, darkened leaf color, enhanced disease resistance, and resulted in high-quality eggplants suitable for the morning market.
3.2 King of Plant Fertilizer is an organic liquid fertilizer that promotes the breakdown of phosphates and other compounds. It significantly increases fruit set percentage, fruit size, and overall yield. The 100x treatment increased yield by 29.43–32.95%, and the 150x treatment by 25.63–28.41%. It also boosts vitamin C content.
3.3 The fertilizer offers excellent quality and high economic returns. The input-output ratio ranges from 1:48.9 to 1:53.8 for the 100x treatment and 1:42.2 to 1:47 for the 150x treatment. It is recommended for widespread use in vegetable crops such as eggplants in our city.
