Autumn flower notes

Many flower lovers enjoy moving their potted plants, such as rubber trees and jellyfish flowers, from containers to the garden in spring. After a season of growth, they are brought back into pots in autumn. This process allows the plants to be easily watered and fertilized, with roots naturally spreading through the soil. As a result, the plants absorb more nutrients and water, which helps balance the supply to the above-ground parts, leading to stronger and healthier growth. However, it's important to note that some plants may not survive the transplanting process. First, control watering and fertilization: One month before flowering, stop applying fertilizer and avoid overwatering. In the first half of the month, stop fertilizing and limit watering. Allow the leaves to slightly wilt during the day but recover by evening. This helps slow down the plant’s growth, increases its resistance to damage, and improves survival rates. Especially for plants with thick stems or fleshy leaves, be careful with the amount of water given. Second, prepare the flower buds: When transplanting, choose a planting area based on the size of the flower's corolla. The surface area of the soil should be slightly larger than the corolla. For woody plants like rubber trees and pomegranates, dig deeper to accommodate their root systems. For herbaceous plants such as longevity flowers and sea holly, keep the roots shallow, but try to dig out as much of the root system as possible without causing too much damage. Third, potting: After planting, water the outside of the root ball to help it settle. Remove any excess soil so that the diameter of the root ball is about 2–4 cm narrower than the pot. The height of the root ball should be 3–5 cm lower than the pot’s edge. Place broken tiles at the bottom of the pot, add 2–4 cm of potting soil, and mix in some hoof meal. After trimming the roots appropriately, gently place the root ball into the pot and fill around it with soil. Fourth, aftercare: Once potted, remove some of the older leaves to reduce water loss. Water thoroughly and place the plant in a shaded area for a few days. Mist the leaves to keep them cool and humid. After 15 to 20 days, the plant can be moved back to normal care. With proper attention, your plants will thrive and flourish once again.
