Autumn flower notes

Many gardening enthusiasts enjoy moving their potted plants, such as rubber trees and jellyfish plants, from containers to the garden in spring. After a summer of growth, they are brought back indoors in autumn. This practice allows for easier watering and fertilizing, and the roots can naturally spread into the soil, increasing their ability to absorb water and nutrients. As a result, the above-ground parts of the plant receive a more balanced supply of nutrients, leading to strong and healthy growth. However, it's important to note that some plants may not survive the transplanting process, especially if not handled carefully. First, it’s crucial to control water and fertilizer one month before flowering. Stop applying fertilizer and avoid overwatering during this time. In the first half of the month, stop fertilizing and limit watering so that the leaves slightly wilt in the afternoon but recover by evening. This helps harden off the tender parts of the plant, improving its resistance to damage and increasing survival rates. For plants with fleshy stems or leaves, watering should be even more restricted. Second, when preparing for transplanting, pay attention to the flower buds. The size of the planting area should be slightly larger than the corolla to allow for proper root development. For woody plants like rubber trees or pomegranates, the roots need to be planted deeper, while herbaceous plants such as longevity flowers or sea holly can be planted shallowly. Try to dig out as much of the root system as possible without causing too much damage. Third, after planting, soak the outer part of the root ball with water and remove any excess soil. The diameter of the root ball should be 2–4 cm smaller than the pot’s diameter, and the height should be 3–5 cm lower than the pot’s edge. Place broken tiles at the bottom of the pot, add 2–4 cm of fresh soil, and mix in some bone meal. After trimming the roots appropriately, gently place the root ball into the pot and fill in the surrounding soil. Fourth, after repotting, remove some of the older leaves to reduce water loss. Water thoroughly and place the plant in a shaded area for maintenance. Mist the leaves to keep them cool and humid. After 15–20 days, the plant can be gradually moved back to normal care conditions. With proper handling, your plants will thrive and look healthier than ever.
