In summer, pigs are warm-blooded animals with thick subcutaneous fat and underdeveloped sweat glands, making them highly susceptible to heat stress. Without proper care, they can suffer from heat exhaustion, which may lead to illness or even death. Therefore, it's essential to implement effective cooling measures during the hot season to ensure the health and safety of the pigs, while also improving the efficiency of pig farming.
1. **Shade the Pigpen**: Most rural pig houses are open-air structures. Before the summer heat arrives, it's important to install temporary shade structures in front of the house to block direct sunlight. You can also build a trellis and grow climbing plants like grapes or pumpkins to naturally provide shade.
2. **Adjust Feed Composition**: During the summer, reduce energy-rich feeds and increase green feed. Adding vinegar, sauerkraut juice, white lentils, mung bean soup, or watermelon rind can help prevent heatstroke. Energy feed should be reduced from 50–70% to 40–50%, while green feed should be increased from 0.5–1 kg to 1–1.5 kg per day.
3. **Night Feeding Strategy**: Feeding pigs at night helps reduce their activity during the day and allows them to rest more. The cooler nighttime hours are ideal for feeding. Try feeding at 7 PM, 11 PM, and 4 AM. Also, offer 0.5% saline solution and juicy green feed at 10 AM and 2 PM.
4. **Ensure Clean Drinking Water**: Pigs need constant access to clean water in summer. Adequate hydration helps regulate body temperature through respiration and sweating. Water is crucial for nutrient transport and waste removal. Pigs should drink up to 23.8% of their body weight in water daily, and adding 0.5% saline can help maintain their body temperature.
5. **Cool the Environment**: Use cool water to spray the floor and walls of the pigpen several times a day, especially during the hottest parts of the day. Avoid using groundwater, as it may be warmer. This method helps lower the overall temperature in the housing area.
6. **Cool the Pigs**: Spray pigs with a hose or shower two to four times a day to help them lose heat. Avoid washing them right before or after feeding, and never pour cold water directly on their heads to prevent shock. If possible, create a shallow pool in the corner of the pen where pigs can soak to cool down. If not feasible, let them roam freely for 10–20 minutes in the afternoon.
7. **Improve Ventilation and Hygiene**: Ensure all ventilation holes are open to allow air circulation. Spread 3–5 cm of sand on the floor to help pigs cool by lying on it. Sprinkle 20% lime milk on walls and floors daily, and disinfect feeding tools with a 3% sodium carbonate solution.
8. **Control Insects Naturally**: To keep flies and mosquitoes away, burn dried ramie leaves at 25 g per cubic meter, or use dipterex for flies. Hang fresh buckwheat leaves soaked in a mixture of diesel and water (3:7 ratio) near the entrance. Replace these every 7–10 days. This method is safe for pigs and effective in reducing pests.

III. Product Usage Safety Instruction:
TC-EM-1 may be stimulative to skin and eyes, and it is recommended to use gloves and protective glasses when use. If eye or skin comes into direct contact with this product, immediately rinse with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes.
IV. Application
As a emulsifier and stabilizer of AKD,TC-EM-1 can provide a good stability of the emulsion. With the mechanical stirring, it can disperse AKD as required in the production process, which average particle diameter more than 80% can be less than 1.2 microns. It can also maintain a relative long time after the emulsification, and it has a certain electrical neutral to the slurry.
Please note, under high hardness, the hydrolysis rate of AKD emulsion will be greatly improved. So in order to reduce the rate of hydrolysis, the PH value of emulsified should be controlled between 4.5~5.0 by Citric Acid. TC-EM-1 has low PH value, which saves this part of the operation.
