I just finished watching an insightful webinar hosted by my favorite platform, featuring Christopher Thomson, a researcher from Heriot-Watt University. Chris shared some groundbreaking work on enhancing automated flow synthesis by integrating in-line flash chromatography purification. It was fascinating to see how these advancements can revolutionize chemical processes.
During the session, we covered quite a bit of ground. First up was an introduction to flow chemistry and the exciting world of in-line purification technologies. We also delved into previous continuous chromatography methods—examining both their strengths and limitations. Another key topic was learning how to connect flow reactors with puriFlash® automated chromatography systems. Chris even threw in some practical tips for executing continuous in-line flash chromatography, which was incredibly helpful for anyone working in the field. Lastly, we discussed future possibilities for this technology, sparking curiosity about what’s yet to come.
For those who might not know, Chris earned his MChem degree (with honors) in Chemistry with Biochemistry from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh back in 2018. He even won the prestigious 'William H. Perkin Prize' for his outstanding contributions to organic chemistry. Now, he’s deep into his PhD studies under the EPSRC-funded Center for Doctoral Training in Critical Resource Catalysis (CRITICAT), co-supervised by Dr. Filipe Vilela and Dr. Ai-Lan Lee.
His current focus revolves around leveraging flow chemistry to improve heterogeneous photocatalysis for organic synthesis. Over time, Chris has contributed numerous publications exploring various enabling technologies within flow systems. These include in-line NMR spectroscopy, in-line UV-Vis spectroscopy, and even static mixing photocatalyst monoliths made using advanced material additive manufacturing techniques. Most recently, he introduced the world’s first example of continuous in-line flash chromatography—a topic he expertly covered during this webinar.

Corn Gluten Feed 18%
1.Corn Gluten Feed Specification:
Corn Gluten feed is a by-product of the wet milling of corn to produce cornstarch, sweeteners, oil and other products. It is made of spraying corn slurry to the corn bran which is separated from the manufacturing process of corn starch and then by steam drying. Corn Gluten is a fiber-rich ingredient, containing significant amounts of nutritious protein and starch. It is used as a feed additive in cattle diets as a source of energy and protein that is beneficial to digestion and absorption. It’s the only effective natural pre-emergent herbicide in turfgrass industry.
2.Features of Corn Gluten:
1).Rich protein content
2).Longer shelf life
3).Easy to digest
3.Applications of Maize Gluten feed
1)Corn gluten is used in the feeding of ruminant animals (milch cows)
2)Corn gluten is used in the feeding of poultry
3)Corn gluten is used in the feeding of pigs
4) Corn gluten is used in the feeding of fish
5)Corn gluten is used in the feeding of pets (dogs, cats)
