One of the effective methods to improve goose farming is using fermented corn stalks as feed. This technique involves fermenting corn stover powder and incorporating it into the geese's diet, particularly for geese aged between 1 to 4 months. By doing so, each goose can save about 3 kilograms of feed per month. For example, if a goose is fed this way for three months, it can save up to 13.5 kilograms of feed, while also growing faster and healthier.
The feeding method is as follows (based on 100 kg of straw feed):
1. Mix 0.2 kg of biological preparation with 1.3 kg of corn bran and stir well.
2. Combine the corn bran mixture with 69.8 kg of straw powder and continue stirring evenly.
3. Add the appropriate amount of water—enough so that when you squeeze the mixture, a few drops of water come out. In winter, use warm water at 30–50°C. The mixture can be placed in pits or containers, or directly sealed in plastic bags for fermentation.
4. Fermentation time varies depending on the season: 2–3 days from mid-May to mid-October, and 5–7 days from mid-October to mid-May.
5. Once the feed is ready, start feeding geese over one month old, gradually increasing the amount from small to large, and reach up to 50% of their total feed. For young geese aged 3–5 months, they can be fully transitioned to this fermented feed. Breeding geese can use 70% fermented feed during the egg-laying period, combined with 30% other materials. A recommended formula includes 15% sunflower meal, 4% bone meal, 10% corn, and 1% shell powder, along with clean drinking water.
Another method involves using sunflower shell powder. This practice has proven effective in raising geese, with some reaching weights of 4 kg or more by 120 days. Sunflower shells are first dried and then crushed. After heat treatment, the nutritional value of the shell powder increases significantly. The main process involves soaking the sunflower powder in 100°C water and mixing it with other feed ingredients.
Geese can begin consuming sunflower flour after 20 days of age, starting with small amounts and gradually increasing. By day 30, the amount of sunflower flour can be increased to 30%, meaning 70% coarse feed and 30% powder. By day 60, it can be increased to 60%, and by day 90, up to 80%. This approach not only improves digestion but also enhances overall growth and health.
Dried Squid Strips
Dried squid strips are a popular snack in many parts of the world, especially in Asia. They are made by drying and preserving strips of squid meat, which results in a chewy and flavorful snack. The strips are often seasoned with salt, sugar, and spices to enhance their taste. Dried squid strips can be eaten on their own as a snack, or used as an ingredient in various dishes such as stir-fries, soups, and salads. They are a good source of protein, low in fat, and contain essential nutrients such as vitamin B12 and selenium. However, they can be high in sodium, so it's important to consume them in moderation.
