This past week marked the end of the 2024 harvest, officially closing another chapter in our vineyard's journey. As the vines settle into their winter slumber, we’re taking a moment to reminisce about the breathtaking changes they’ve undergone this year. The leaves are now painting the vines in fiery shades of orange and red—a sight we always look forward to. Below, I’ve shared some photos from throughout the year so you can relive the magic with us. Scroll through to see how our vineyard transforms with each passing month!
Starting off in January, the vines were still dormant after the winter chill. It’s amazing how something so quiet can hold so much potential. The branches stood stark against the sky, waiting patiently for the first signs of spring.
Fast forward to February, and pruning began in earnest. Each vine was meticulously trimmed to encourage new growth. Watching the crew work always fills me with awe—they're true artists shaping the future of the vineyard.
March brought bud break, one of my favorite moments. Those tiny green buds emerging from the vines feel like nature waking up from its winter nap. It’s such a hopeful time!
By April, the vines were alive with fresh leaves, creating a lush canopy. You could already see the promise of clusters forming, hinting at the bounty to come later in the year.
June rolled around, and the vines were covered in delicate white flowers. These blooms symbolize the transition from vegetative growth to fruit development, setting the stage for veraison later in the season.
July brought veraison, where the grapes changed colors and flavors began to develop. Watching the transformation of green grapes into deep purples and ruby reds is truly mesmerizing.
Jesse, our winemaker, kept a watchful eye on the progress. With each passing day, the grapes grew plumper and sweeter, readying themselves for harvest. His dedication ensures every bottle reflects the care we put into the vineyard.
September ushered in the start of harvest season, kicking off with the crisp, zesty Sauvignon Blanc. The air buzzed with excitement as the first crates of fruit made their way to the winery.
Red varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon followed suit, with their deep, rich clusters adding depth to the season’s offerings. Despite the heatwaves this year, our vines thrived, producing exceptional fruit.
Now, as autumn takes hold, the vineyard bursts into a kaleidoscope of colors. Even before the last bunches of fruit were picked, the vines were adorned with golden yellows and fiery reds. It’s a magical sight that never fails to inspire.
This final image, taken just days ago, captures the last press of the season. It’s bittersweet knowing it’s over, but there’s comfort in knowing the vines will rest and recharge for next year.
As the leaves fall and the vines drift into their winter sleep, we invite you to visit us here at Rubino Estates. Come experience the tranquility and beauty of the vineyard firsthand. Cheers to a successful harvest and the promise of another great vintage ahead!
Until next spring, take care!
