Fertilizers and farmyard manure should be applied with attention to three key techniques. First, it's important to consider timing. Since farmyard manure releases nutrients slowly, it should be applied early, ideally once before sowing. On the other hand, chemical fertilizers are less effective if not used in time, so they should be applied at least 7 days before the crop begins to absorb nutrients effectively.
Second, the method of application matters. Compound fertilizers work best when used as a base fertilizer, while urea is more efficient when applied as a top dressing. Farmyard manure should be mixed into the soil through deep plowing or incorporated into the ridge base during land preparation. When combining nitrogen-based fertilizers with farmyard manure, 30% can be used as a base fertilizer, and 70% as top dressing. Phosphate and potash fertilizers, on the other hand, are best applied as a single dose as part of the base fertilizer.
Finally, the combination of quantitative amounts of fertilizer and farmyard manure should be adjusted based on the crop type and soil fertility. For example, in a low-fertility field growing corn, you might apply 4 cubic meters of farmyard manure per mu, along with 24 kg of urea and 13 kg of phosphate fertilizer. Alternatively, you could use 13 kg of compound fertilizer. In medium-fertility soil, 3 cubic meters of farmyard manure, 20 kg of urea, or 12 kg of compound fertilizer would be suitable. For high-fertility soil, 2.5 cubic meters of farmyard manure and 15 kg of urea would be sufficient. Adjusting the quantities according to the specific conditions ensures optimal growth and yield.
