China Business News (Reporter Li Lin) was the 23rd “day for the prevention and treatment of iodine deficiency disorders†in China yesterday. Monitoring showed that pregnant women in some areas of our province had iodine deficiency.
Yesterday, the Provincial Health Planning Commission, the Provincial Salt Administration, and the Provincial Department of Ground Protection and other departments held publicity activities in the People's Square of Hu County to popularize the relevant health knowledge of iodine deficiency disorders. It is understood that our province is one of the 10 provinces with the most serious iodine deficiency in the country. The 2015 surveillance showed that the rate of goiter in 8-10 year-old students was slightly lower in the province, and the rate of goiter in the province, city, and county was below 5%, and all of them met the national standard for the elimination of iodine deficiency disorders.
The urinary iodine medians of children and pregnant women are all important indicators for verifying the suitability of iodine content. A total of 21,685 8-year-old children's urine samples were detected in the province last year, and the median urinary iodine was 234.06 μg/L. The monitoring results showed that the median urinary iodine of children in our province was high, and the population iodine nutrition level was generally in an over-adequate intake state, but it was slightly lower than that in 2014 (237.70 μg/L). Surveillance also found that pregnant women in 10 regions have found iodine deficiency, such as pregnant women in Fugu, Shenmu, Wubao, Zhenba, Luonan, Shangnan, Shanyang, Zhenan, and Hancheng counties. Urinary iodine levels were lower than 150 μg/L, and urine iodine was lower than 100 μg/L in pregnant women in Mizhi County.
