Summer management of newly planted trees

In the summer, the management of newly planted forests mainly focuses on the following measures:

The first is timely irrigation. Newly planted trees have less roots and have difficulty absorbing water, while trees need to have a lot of water to produce leaves and roots. Keep proper moisture content in the soil around the roots to ensure that the roots are always in the moist soil to meet the needs of water and improve the survival rate of the seedlings.

The second is to help raise the soil. Newly planted trees are generally shallowly ploughed into the soil and surrounded by loose pines, causing the roots to be suspended or the roots exposed. We should conduct an inspection of the trees we planted, correcting the skewed and loosened seedlings, and laying solid ground. This is an important measure to ensure the survival of the seedlings and can not be ignored.

The third is weeding loose soil. Weeds and saplings compete for water nutrients and intercalate the soil, hindering the extension of the roots of the saplings, removing weeds in time, and improving the conditions for rooting and growth of the saplings. The weeds that are removed cover the ground and can maintain the humidity in the forest. The loose soil can cut off the soil capillary. Reduce water evaporation, preserve soil moisture, increase soil aeration and promote microbial activity, improve soil fertility, help seedling survival and growth.

The fourth is to clean up badly sprouted seedlings. In particular, newly planted seedlings, cut off the non-germinated dry shoots or flat bracts, sealed with red paint, poured a few times more water.

Fifth, intercropping with forest farmers. The intercropping crops can only be dwarf crops such as beans, peanuts, and green manures, and are kept at a certain distance from the saplings (leaving a 1.5m tree tray).

Sixth, tree tending. There are several tasks such as debridement, pruning, flat plowing, and touching buds. For the seedlings with more than one main stem or more, debridement should be carried out, leaving only a good trunk. If the seedlings with more branches or uneven distribution on the main stem, they can be trimmed properly to cultivate good quality stems.
