Why the tractor is out of order

When a driver encounters issues with the tractor's transmission, it can be extremely frustrating and even dangerous. Especially for lighter tractors, if such a problem occurs, the operator may feel completely helpless. This condition is commonly referred to as "tractor turbulence" or "hanging double gear," and it can significantly impact the machine’s performance and safety. The main symptoms of this issue include the tractor being unable to move forward or backward, the engine emitting heavy black smoke, stalling unexpectedly, or even failing to start at all. These signs often point to a serious mechanical problem within the transmission system. The primary causes of this problem are as follows: 1. **Deformation of the Shift Positioning Guide Plate** Most small tractors use a “King”-shaped positioning guide, which is prone to wear over time. Frequent and improper shifting, especially by inexperienced operators, can lead to collisions between moving parts. This results in warping of the shift frame or widening of the notches, making it difficult for the shift lever to align properly. As a result, two gears can engage simultaneously, causing the tractor to hang in two gears at once. 2. **Deformation of the Gear Lever** If the shift lever is bent due to careless handling or excessive force, it can misalign during operation. The lower end of the lever may slip out of the fork groove, leading to the engagement of two gears at the same time. 3. **Wear in the Transmission Linkage System** Components like the fork axle slide can wear down over time. If the driver shifts too quickly or forcefully, the shift lever might jump out of its track, causing the tractor to shift into an unintended gear before the previous one has fully disengaged. 4. **Excessive Wear on Spline Shafts and Gears** Worn splines can cause the gear positioning ring to loosen, allowing the steel ball to get stuck in the fork spring hole. This leads to the gear slipping out of place and the tractor locking up automatically. 5. **Improper Installation of the Transmission Cover** After repairs or maintenance, if the transmission cover isn’t fully seated or tightened correctly, it can cause misalignment. This prevents the main gear lever from reaching its proper position, leading to the simultaneous engagement of two gears. **Preventive Measures:** 1. Regularly inspect the shift lever for any signs of bending or wear. If damaged, replace the ball end or the entire lever to avoid further complications. 2. Avoid forcing the gear shift unless absolutely necessary. Forcing the lever can damage internal components and worsen the situation. 3. If you notice warping or excessive wear on the shift positioning guide, repair or replace it immediately. Using a faulty guide can lead to repeated issues. 4. When replacing or repairing fork shafts and ball heads, ensure that an interlocking mechanism is in place. This prevents both gears from engaging at the same time. 5. Check the spline shaft and gear for wear regularly. Replace them if needed, and ensure the positioning spring is functioning properly. Adjust or replace the spring hole if necessary to prevent unclear shifting or automatic gear disengagement. By following these precautions, tractor operators can significantly reduce the risk of encountering "tractor turbulence" and maintain smoother, safer operation.
