Laboratory diagnosis and results analysis of inclusion body conjunctivitis

Inclusion body conjunctivitis is a sexual, infectious, acute or subacute membranous inflammation caused by Chlamydia trachomatis. The lesion is similar to trachoma, but there is no corneal vasospasm, no conjunctival scar formation, usually recovered in weeks or months, no sequelae. If left untreated, individual cases may have corneal scars and vasospasm.

[Etiology] This disease is conjunctivitis caused by Chlamydia trachomatis in the Chlamydia trachomatis, including infants and adults. The former is an infection of the baby through the birth canal, causing acute suppurative conjunctivitis, does not invade the cornea, and can heal itself; adult infection can cause follicular conjunctivitis due to contact with the sexes, or by hand, or contaminated swimming pool water.

[laboratory diagnosis]
1. Specificity check (1) Pathogen culture and isolation.
(2) Chlamydia antigen detection.
(3) Chlamydia antibody detection.
2. Non-specific examination of blood routine examination.

[Result analysis and judgment]
1. Pathogen culture and isolation of basophilic nucleus in the conjunctival epithelial cells. Chlamydia can be isolated from chicken embryo yolk sac or cell culture.
2. Chlamydia antigen detection monoclonal antibody, immunofluorescence staining, ELISA detection of serum antigen can be positive, PCR detection of tear Chlamydia antigen positive has a certain significance.
3. Chlamydia antibody detection complement fixation test can be used as a retrospective diagnosis basis. Direct immunofluorescence assay for positive detection of chlamydial antibodies in tears can be used as a basis for diagnosis.
4. The number of white blood cells in the non-specific examination patients is normal, and there may be neutral or eosinophilia. A large number of lymphocytes and neutrophils were seen in the conjunctival smear specimens.
It can be diagnosed according to clinical symptoms and signs, but for early or mild patients, laboratory tests are needed to help diagnose. The disease should be differentiated from trachoma, and neonatal inclusion body conjunctivitis should be differentiated from gonococcal conjunctivitis.
