Pumpkin shoot cultivation method

Pumpkins generally do not use pesticides during the cultivation process. Their tender melons, melons, flowers, petioles, young shoots, etc. can all be eaten as vegetables. In particular, the shoots are fried, the taste is light, crisp, delicious and delicious, and it is actually a vegetable. High quality products are favored by consumers. In recent years, vegetable farmers in Yuan’an County, Hubei Province have used open fields and large greenhouses to plant and harvest the harvested shoots. Compared with the cultivation of other leafy vegetables, it has the advantages of less investment, short time, and good efficiency. Its cultivation techniques are as follows:

1. Site preparation: The wide line drill is adopted, and the deep ditch sorghum method is adopted. The width is 2 meters wide and the ditch depth is 20 cm. One-time application of basal fertiliser, applying 2000-2500 kg of organic fertilizer per 667 m2, 50 kg of compound fertilizer. The soil should ensure a certain humidity when planting.

2. Seeding: Select local varieties with vigorous growth of vines, and use about 3 kg per 667 square meters for sowing in early April. Before sowing, the seeds shall be sunned for 1-2 days, and the pods and deformed grains shall be removed. After the seed is soaked with water, the seeds are soaked and put into warm water of 50° C. for 1-2 hours, dried and sown. The treated seeds were drilled and covered with about 2 cm thick fine soil. Appropriate seedlings were transplanted after emergence and the spacing was 20 cm.

3. Management: In order to enhance the heat preservation and moisturizing ability, the live film can be covered with agricultural film or straw to promote seedling emergence. After the emergence, the seedlings were harvested once, and the seedlings and the cultivator loosened soil at the same time. When the leaves were 3-4 leaves, the seedlings were planted with a spacing of 20 cm. The seedlings below can be used for transplanting or eating. After transplanting seedlings, seedlings should be applied in a timely manner. Attention must be paid to the prevention of waterlogging in rainy days, and soil moisture should always be maintained within the earthworms. When the leaves grow to 6-9 pieces and the vine length reaches 30-40 cm, the first harvest can be performed. When a new leaf grows after the wound is healed by the harvesting plant, the seedling fertilizer is applied once again to accelerate the growth of shoots. After each harvest, one fertilizer must be topdressed once, and thin manure or 1% urea solution should be used as top dressing.

4. Harvesting: When the main vine grows to 6-9 leaves, the young shoots are picked in time, leaving only 4 base leaves to promote the growth of shoot buds. The new shoots grow more than 30 centimeters to keep 1-2 buds after harvesting. A piece of melon vine can harvest multiple shoots continuously, and in summer and autumn, it can also harvest unopened flowers and pedicels. If it is a high-density planting, it can be harvested at one time, if the planting can be harvested in batches. The shoots of cultivated pumpkins can be sown from the beginning of April until the end of August.
