As Rosenberg explained, “We assumed coffee causes bad breath, but during this brewing process, we discovered that certain components in coffee actually suppress it.â€
Experts explain that bad breath is a natural occurrence, even in individuals with good oral hygiene. The back of the tongue and other areas of the mouth serve as breeding grounds for bacteria that produce volatile sulfur compounds, leading to an unpleasant odor. Foods like garlic and onions can intensify this issue, as their compounds are absorbed into the bloodstream and exhaled through the lungs.
Looking ahead, Rosenberg aims to isolate the specific compounds in coffee that inhibit bad breath. He believes these ingredients could help prevent plaque formation and address the root cause of foul-smelling breath. Unlike traditional mint-based products that only mask the problem temporarily, coffee-derived compounds may offer a more effective solution. This could revolutionize the oral care industry, introducing a new generation of products that target bad breath at its source rather than just covering it up.
