Japanese researchers have announced that the neutrino produced by Japan's high-intensity proton accelerator facility "J-PARC" was first detected by the neutrino detection device "Super Kamioka" 300 km away.
The Japan High Energy Accelerator Research Institute and the Cosmos Ray Research Institute of the University of Tokyo jointly issued a press release to say that the neutrino detection device "Super Kamioka" is located in Kamioka-cho, Gifu Prefecture, Japan, and "J-PARC" is located in Donghae Village, Ibaraki Prefecture. The distance between the two is about 300 kilometers. In the experiment completed a few days ago, "Super Kamioka" successfully detected the artificial neutrino issued by "J-PARC" "remotely".
The communique said that the "J-PARC" neutrino experimental facility first produced neutrino beams in April 2009. Later, the researchers set out to adjust the particle beam and captured the neutrino for the first time using the front detector in November of the same year. Since 2010, researchers have begun to launch neutrino beams to the "Super Kamioka" 300 kilometers away, and finally successfully achieved "remote" detection, thus verifying the "Super Kamioka" and "J-PARC" high performance.
Next, Japanese researchers will increase the intensity of the particle beam and simultaneously collect the test data obtained at the end of the “Super Kamioka†for analysis. In addition to exploring the nature of neutrinos, researchers will investigate in detail the neutrino oscillations in which neutrinos transform from one form to another during flight.
